Parents Day

Haven't managed to get any painting done yet today because have been in school all morning with Gemma for Parents Day.  It was lovely watching them all do their dancng and singing.  Was very impressed with Gemma's singing which was very loud if not completely in tune!

Have started work on a new painting - just blocking in the main colours.  Will continue working on this one upto half-term and will then have to give it a break for a week whilst the children are off.  I'm actually looking forward to the break for once because I'm getting a pain in my neck from standing at the easel for so long.

Did a painting by numbers with Thomas at the weekend of the House of Parliment.  Was quite relaxing!

Frustration!

Getting really frustrated with this one now!  Keep changing my mind about where to place the ponies.  So going to put to one side for a couple of weeks and then come back to it with fresh eyes (hopefully).

Tempted to get a sunlounger out and go and read a book outside because the weather is so lovely.  Although really should start another painting!

Porlock Bay

Decided to saw a bit off this one yesterday morning!  The composition just wasn't right so have taken an inch off the bottom of the board and moved one of the ponies.  I'm happier with it now.

Managed a couple of hours last night and now want to start working on the ponies and the heather in the foreground.  Aiming to get this one done before half-term!

Palette 2

Well I'm about to head off for the school run so that will be it for painting until this evening after I've got the children into bed so thought I'd upload a photo of my palette as it is now.

It doesn't really look to have changed much.  I've moved the pools of colour slightly (warmer or cooler) and will carry on using these this evening for another couple of hours painting before cleaning my palette before tomorrow.

The painting I'm working on is of ponies above Porlock Bay.  I've done about 4 hours so far and will try and get another couple of hours in tonight.  I've blocked in the main shapes and will now start working into them.

Palette

I thought I'd post a photo of my palette at the start and end of today.  So this is before I start painting:

The colours I'm currently using are (from left to right): Cad Yellow, Cad Red and Ultramarine.  Then some mixed greys, both warm and cool to start me off with my values.  I've taken to pre-mixing colours before starting painting because it helps me focus on the values and dominant colours.  Then when I start painting I can concentrate on what is going on on the canvas rather than fussing about the palette too much.  It helps me feel a bit more in control!

Will post a photo of my palette at the end of the day!

Frame painting

Have been painting frames this morning to get my two paintings ready for Patchings.  It's quite nice to paint without having to 'think'!

Came across the painter Scott Christensen - Amazing!  Really worth a look.  Just shows what you can do with three colours.  Anyway, better go, not had lunch yet and will soon be time for the school run!

On my easel

Managed to get a couple of hours of painting done this morning whilst the children went to visit one of their grandma's.  Working on a little 10 x 12 inch painting of Porlock Weir 'Contre Jour' (into the light).

My plan is to finish this one in the next couple of days and then start on a load of Gallery paintings which need to be fitted in before half-term in four weeks time!  Then I'll need to work on my SEA (Society of Equestrian Artists) paintings before the Summer holidays.  Busy, Busy, Busy!

Artist Magazine Exhibition

So excited to be exhibiting with the 'Artist' magazine after all.  They very kindly let me swap two paintings for the two that had sold, so the following will be at 'Patchings Art Centre' from the 14th June until the 22nd July 2012.

Gave up on the Silverpoint - It's way to slow and time consuming for me. I have two kids so drawing and painting time is limited enough without me making it harder for myself!
