Churchgate Gallery Spring Exhibition

Very excited to be part of the Churchgate Gallery Spring Exhibition which runs from the 2nd - 21st April 2012.  It's a lovely Gallery right next to the Church in Porlock and is well worth a visit.  From there you can drive up Porlock Hill onto the Moor and you get stunning views out over Porlock Bay.  It's one of my favourite views and I keep meaning to go up there to paint when I'm child free!

Anyway, back to the easel.

Life Class Part 2

Had the second week of our two week pose this morning.  My aim was to try and get more form into the body but I ended up messing around with the face quite a bit!  It could still do with a lot of work but I've really enjoyed just using a piece of willow charcoal and a rubber.

Workshop

Just back from a workshop this weekend painting oranges and pots!  Absolutely exhausted now.  I find painting completely mentally draining.  So seeing as it's Mother's Day going to order a takeaway for tea and have a glass of wine.

Life Class Part 1

It was my Life class again today and we're having a two week pose so decided to work slightly bigger and in charcoal for a change.  Put down a middle tone using my charcoal sock (a pair of tights with charcoal powder in it!) and then worked into that tone with my eraser and willow charcoal.  Relatively happy with my drawing so next week I can concentrate on my form in the body and building up the strength in the darker areas.

The dreaded vomiting virus!

Poor Thomas had the dreaded vomiting virus over the weekend so have had a break from drawing for a couple of days and boy can I tell.  Went to life class this morning and it was a real struggle.  My drawing was all over the place and it felt really awkward.  We're going to have a two week pose from next week so might brave the oils!

Dropped three paintings off at the NSA 'Associates' Exhibition which will run from the 8th March until the 13th March.

Diary of an Artist / Mum!

Have decided to keep a Blog on my wesbite now with any news / new paintings that I may be working on.

Had a busy week with a Hospital trip for my daughter Gemma to have a kidney scan on Tuesday.  Unfortunately we were there longer than necessary while the Doctor tried to locate two kidneys (she only has one).  I thought he looked stressed and seemed to be taking ages!

It's her birthday party tomorrow and we're taking 14 four years olds to a farm park so keeping our fingers crossed that the weather men have the forecast wrong!

My son Thomas has also won the class Squirrel (Sammy) for the weekend which means keeping a 'Squirrel diary' of what he gets upto over the weekend.  The boys get very excited about having Sammy to stay, but unfortunately the Mums aren't so keen!  So need to think of some exciting adventures for 'Sammy the Squirrel'.

On the art side I have been working on my Bargue drawings.  Have really grown to love doing these and it's something I can do in the evening when the children are tucked up in bed.  I'm not doing tham strictly as described in the book but non the less I feel that it's really improving my observation skills and would highly recommend them.  With these and the little sketch books I keep in my handbag for sketching on the school run I try and fit in as much drawing as possible.

Anyway, have a busy evening wrapping presents so better get on with it.  Might have to open a can of lager to aid the process!
